How to Repair Error Code “0x80004005” in Exchange Server 2010

This generally happens when you accidentally delete those log files from the Exchange Server’s Database which has not been written into its corresponding database.

This may generate many problems. You may receive the error while mounting the Exchange Database. This error may also pop up due to the Dirty System Shutdown. Due to this Dirty shutdown you may lose some important log files which may lead into the Corruption of Exchange Database. This makes the Exchange database inaccessible. So it is advised to find out the issue and resolve it as soon as possible. In this blog, I have explained general symptoms, Causes and possible possible resolution of the Error  “0x80004005”

Symptoms of the Error Code  “0x80004005”

You may face the issue while mounting the Exchange Database or while accessing the Exchange Database.

Possible Causes of the Error Code

1). Deletion of log files which has not been written into the Exchange database.

2). Dirty Shutdown as explained above is also one of the possible Cause of this error.

3). This may also happen due to the Corruption in the Exchange Database.

Possible Resolution of the Error Code “0x80004005”

Before proceeding to the possible resolutions of this error, first try to repair Exchange Database using the Eseutil and Isinteg Commands. If it does not work for you then proceed further by using the different techniques.

1). Restore the Configurations of Exchange Server in AD by running the Command Setup /PrepareAD.

2). In  “Manage auditing and security log” policy, add the Exchange Server Groups.

1). Restore Configuration of Exchange Server

Run the Command Setup /PrepareAD from the CD of Exchange Server. This command will automatically restore the Configuration settings of Exchange Server in AD.

2). In  “Manage auditing and security log” policy, add Exchange Server Groups by using the Domain Controller

Follow the steps mentioned below to perform the task:

Open Domain Controller and log on in it by using the accounts having full administrator rights.

  • Now Click on Start à Administrator Tool and then Domain Controller Security Policy
  • Expand the local policies from the Security setting of Domain Controller and after that select User Rights Assignment.
  • Now open Manage Auditing and Security log from the right panel.
  • Here, click on the Add Users or Group Type the DomainNameExchange Servers in the the box of User and group names.
  • Now Exit the security settings of the Domain Controller and wait until the Security Settings are applied.
  • Restart the Information Store Services
